For the Witches: My Favorite Definition of Magic

A big part of my soul's mission is to help people remember that this Earth is alive with magic. That we are alive with magic.

That life is so much more rich and deep than the materialistic lens that Capitalism is founded on, and that mainstream science still clings too, regardless of significant evidence, dare I say proof, otherwise (if you haven't yet listened to The Telepathy Tapes, I highly recommend!)

When I speak about magic, I'm talking about a spiritual, unseen world of energy and mystery that lives beyond our perceived reality. That we are all connected through. And through our relationship with it, we can shift material reality, heal ourselves, and gain insight, and receive guidance.

Magic to me is the consciousness that moves through Earth. It is the consciousness that inhabits the cosmos, and impacts every aspect of our lives.

And enacting magic is simply utilizing our will and intention to initiate change by partnering with the forces of life. Connecting with and understanding the energies that give rise to material form, and those that live beyond material form.

One of my favorite definitions of magic comes from British occultist Dion Fortune (1890-1946) who was a major figure in the re-birth of modern witchcraft:

"Magic is the art of changing consciousness at will."

It is the art of understanding consciousness, both in yourself and in the world around you, so you can affect change to that consciousness and therefore change physical reality. You have awareness of your thoughts. You have agency over how to receive or dismiss consciousness from a plant, deity, stone, ancestor, or other force of nature.

In the Golden Stone Immersion we've been deep in exploring magic lately. We've been building relationships with plants, and have a stone ally to partner with. We've been exploring the seasons and elements as forces of nature that we can embody the consciousness of.

That we can channel, embody, and learn from. And through these relationships and their medicine, we learn to shift our own consciousness, and our own embodied state.

Magic is not supernatural. It is absolutely of this earth, embedded in nature, and alive within you.

Once you remember this, you reclaim agency over your body and your life. Once you remember this, you take your power back and understand how you are a crucial part of the expression of this Earth.

Your magic is important in helping shift the tides of the collective.

My work lives at the intersection between body, earth, and magic.

Our magic only strengthens when we heal our relationship with our body.

Our effectiveness in this 3D existence lies in how deeply and fully we can embody ourselves here.

And I've found that Earth beings, the plants, the stones, the elements, the waters, the landforms help us remember our magic. Help us hone and craft our magic.

They each remind us of aspects of our power, because they, too, want us to embody magic on this earth.

So don’t forget that magic still exists. Even when things feel scary or uncertain. The earth is still whispering words of love to us. The plants are still here to help us remember ourselves back to the living matrix of Interbeing.

The sacredness of life is still trying to help you remember your worthiness, your power, and your medicine.

You are so powerful. And you are so magical. Don't let yourself forget that.
