What is the Witch Wound?

Collectively, we’ve been living through a large swath of time under a Spell of Disconnection, where we’ve forgotten our humble place on this Earth. So many of us have been separated from loving relationship with our bodies, from spiritual connection with Life, from our intuitive knowing, and so many deeply connective ways of being that were systematically eradicated.

Thankfully, there have been Indigenous ones holding down the story of remembrance for us until we were ready to receive it. And thankfully, these deeper truths never fully die. They just go into hiding, into symbols, into myth and story.

And now, we’re collectively awakening from the spell. In swarms. It’s beautiful and powerful. This awakening is a healing. It’s a whole-ing. It’s a remembering.

We’re acknowledging all the power that’s been intentionally hidden, and we’re reclaiming it. In this way, we’re healing the stories of separation that have kept us small, unworthy, in scarcity, and blindly following along with the Patriarchal Dream.

And, because we are a microcosm to the macrocosm, we each contain a multitude of parts within us seeking to find that wholeness, too, within our own body and wider consciousness. So we are simultaneously healing and re-membering within, as we heal and re-member ourselves collectively on the Earth, and heal and re-member ourselves within the larger spiritual consciousness of Life.

As I wrote about last week, what drives this innate healing process is an inescapable connection to wholeness and interbeing.

A knowing that no matter what befalls the land or the body, we innately are all a fractal of wholeness.

We can’t escape it because it’s our internal resonant truth.

Right now, so many folks are feeling that calling from within to meet this moment, but aren’t sure how to live it in the world. So many of you feel that spell dissolving, but it’s being met with lifetimes of protective mechanisms stored in your body, built to keep you safe. And keep you small.

This is the Witch Wound.

For centuries, for generations, there was a true cost of speaking for the Earth. Of being a healer or medicine person. Of being a voice of the plants, or the mystical nature of Life. Hundreds of thousands (and estimates sometimes even say millions) of people were literally killed for these very things, so of course it rings as terror in the body when you want to step into your magic, into your resonant truth.

But, thankfully, that calling from within will never go away no matter how many protective mechanisms cover it up. Because your connection to wholeness, to magic, to your soul is eternal. It’s what’s real. So it can never be eradicated and can never be fully silenced.

Healing from the Spell of Disconnection

In my experience, true healing must include two distinct parts of the process:

1) removing/clearing/integrating what is in the way of wholeness, and

2) amplifying the experience of innate wholeness within.

Often when we focus on one or the other, the second naturally occurs, but it’s helpful to hold both in mind.

On my table I am always in conversation with the parts of folks that are scared or hurt or sad or believe they’re unworthy or bad. And I’m also always helping those parts be in conversation with a wider truth that’s felt within, no matter how deep or small or unconscious. This wider truth of wholeness, of soul radiance, of authentic heart expression.

So this is what we have the responsibility and privilege of embarking on as we awaken from this Spell. We get to hold the scared ones within us close and dear, while simultaneously leaning into courage to follow the magic that wants to live out through us.

And you know who are some of the most brilliant helpers in both honoring the innate blueprint within you, while also tending to the wounded ones within?

The plants.

They astound me every day. (That’s not an exaggeration.) They show up for me, my clients, my students in the most beautiful ways, to help us be with the inner parts that feel broken, as well as help us remember our wholeness.

They are the sincere and devoted healers.

As ancestors of Earth, as well as our own living ancestors, they are masters at helping us remember our true nature.

I do believe (and this is what they’ve told me) it is with their help that we will finally shake off this Spell of Disconnection and into our humble, interwoven power.
