What Does it Mean to "Belong" in a World of "Belongings?"

I’ve been thinking about the world “belonging” lately and how that compares to how "belongings" are seen in our modern culture. “Belongings” has a material connotation in English. And yet ties deeply into the experience of belonging.
If done well, we surround ourselves with things that help us feel and feed that sense of home in our lived experience. Accumulations that help us feel more secure, or cumulatively make up our lives and who we know ourselves to be.
Your favorite T-shirt filled with memories, a stuffed animal from when you were little, the face cream that has a certain, special scent that uplifts you, your collection of crystals and stones and feathers that link you to moments of Earth connection, the books you’ve read or want to read, your grandmother's rocking chair...
These belongings paint a picture of a life. And when we see someone’s home or their belongings we step into a story.
I got to thinking about ownership, how it isn't true we actually “own” our belongings, or anything in this world for that matter, as fleeting visitors whose belongings will be scattered out to others or the Earth after we die.
I do believe, however, that we take the soul lessons and meaningful relationship imprints with us when we die. The energies that have impacted us and helped us grow and evolve as a soul.
So what if belongings were thought of not as physical objects, but as spiritual relationships?
Material objects that represent some sort of relationship we have with the metaphysical plane?
What a profound practice to look around your home and assess your belongings for the relationship that's behind them.
What spiritual relationship does this object house and hold?
Does it elicit a sense of belonging for you? Does it feel lifeless, hollow, or just taking up space? Does it tether you to an energy or relationship that is draining or unsupportive?
What spiritual and energetic relationships are you anchoring yourself to through your belongings?
And if I consider that I don't actually "own" anything, and that my "true" belongings are energies I hold close, that amplify my life, that help me anchor into a sense of belonging, then wouldn’t it be true that I also have spiritual “belongings” which do the same thing? Spiritual belongings that inform how I know myself to be as a soul?
Spiritual belongings are something that I carry with me everywhere I go. My plant allies. The elements. My spirit guides. The connection I have with the language of my body. If these things were visible (and I know they are to some intuitive and psychic-leaning folks) you’d be able to paint a much more robust story of who I am based on these spiritual belongings.
And the depth of these spiritual relationships determines so much in regard to our lived experience of belonging on this Earth.
As we gather these spiritual belongings we innately cultivate a deeper sense of belonging here in Earth. These are the belongings to feed, to grow relationship with, to wear in our energy fields like our favorite outfit.
The more I gather my spiritual team; the river, the rocks, the trees, the flowers, Eagle, Crow and Snake… the more I feel embedded in the story of the land.
Through my belongings I create a story of who it is that I belong to.
I become a belonging to the land again. I again belong to place. I am a belonging. And I belong.
