Your body is not a 'meat suit.' What if it's spirit manifested?

This week on Instagram I created a reel that got way more attention and comments than anything I’ve been putting out recently.

In it I said “can we please stop saying that the body is a meat suit?”

Whenever I hear this I cringe internally. Probably because I’m a bodyworker and understand the body to be so much more than the pretty demeaning term “meat suit.”

I do understand that it can be a supportive metaphor for people who don't understand that they are more than just this physical world and more than just the physical body, but what this phrase actually does is reinforce a false hierarchy and duality between spirit and body.

It reinforces the religious ideology that heaven is better than earth. That spirit is better than body. That all that’s “good” about us is our spiritual self, and the body is an afterthought, just a simple and crude vessel.

When we think like this we’re still unconsciously playing out stories of separation that have been programmed into us that keep us living in disconnection from the full truth of Life, from wholeness and integration of body and spirit.

Disconnected from understanding ourselves as both spirit and matter, formless and form. And allowing this material world to be just as holy as the spiritual planes.

The Problem with Disconnecting Body From Spirit

You might see how these beliefs, however unconscious, keep us on the trajectory of harming the Earth. And they’re what perpetuate disconnection from, and warring with, our bodies.

Our bodies are the physical expression of our spirit. Our soul manifest. They are how we know and understand ourselves as spiritual beings. They are how we understand ourselves as conscious creators.

They are how we experience the depth and breadth of emotion, sensation, feeling.

A Black woman kisses the cheek of a light-skinned woman. They hold each other.

There's so much that you can experience in a body that you can't experience in the spiritual planes. Without bodies we don’t get to experience life in the same way. That's why we're here.

The body is also incredibly hyper-intelligent. They are the keepers of our akashic records. They hold all of the stories and memories and insights of our whole lifetime, and past lives. Layers and layers of insight and deep understanding.

When You See Your Body and Spirit as One and the Same

The more we connect with the layers of our body, the deeper we go in uncovering who we are and what we’re here to learn (and unlearn).

Your body is your intuition, and also your unconscious mind. They are the iceberg that's under the surface of the water. All of that knowing, all of the subconscious insight and memory, lives in your body.

And the very tip of the iceberg, that is your conscious mind.

So please, give your brilliant, wise, and magical body some acknowledgement today. They are always communicating with you. Always trying to do what they think is best to keep you in homeostasis, even if it doesn’t seem like it sometimes. The more we honor the physical body as sacred, the more we honor this material Earth body as sacred. They are one and the same. And are so much more than “meat suits” for the spiritual plane.

Golden Stone Immersion

Reclaiming our power from the forces of distortion is what we do in the Golden Stone Immersion. We excavate the outdated stories, reclaim specific types of power through each of the chakras, and reweave ourselves back into the Oceanic Power of the Earth.

This re-harmonizes our inner terrain. We deepen our relationship with the Earth body again. And we become more fully ourselves. More fully alive, pulsing with The Magic of Life.
